CVE North America and GreenSpark Break Ground on 26 MW of Solar in New York State
New York, NY, July 6th, 2023 – GreenSpark Solar (GreenSpark) and CVE North America (CVE) have broken ground on a portfolio of five community solar projects totaling over 26 megawatts (MW) in New York State. CVE North America, headquartered in New York City and a subsidiary of the France-based CVE Group, is focused on developing, building, and operating community solar plants across the US. GreenSpark has designed, engineered, and built over 200 MW of renewable energy projects.
This 26MW portfolio includes three projects in Manlius, one in Wheatfield, and one in Ransomville. CVE owns and will operate the projects while GreenSpark has been contracted for primary engineering, procurement, and construction services. The projects are part of CVE’s broader portfolio of thirteen projects currently in construction in New York State totaling 73 MW.
“This partnership with GreenSpark combines our companies’ collective solar expertise to design and construct cutting-edge community solar projects that will provide locally produced renewable energy.” said Ben Dereume, Technical Director of CVE. “CVE is excited to be working with GreenSpark, aligning on our core missions and values, both as Certified B-corporations, to contribute to a more equitable energy transition by expanding New York residents’ access to affordable clean energy.”
“With our 21 years of history here in NY, we are always looking for new partners like CVE to welcome their investment in the communities of Western NY,” said Kevin Schulte, CEO of GreenSpark. “Our experience will help to make sure these projects will both produce clean electricity for a long time but also ensure that CVE is a good neighbor to the communities we are working in.”
Construction on the Wheatfield and Ransomville projects started earlier this year and the three Manlius projects broke ground this month. As part of the New York Value of Distributed Energy Resources (VDER) program, all five projects will be community solar installations and receive funding from the NYSERDA’s NY-Sun program that aims to make solar energy more accessible to homes, businesses and communities. Once completed, the projects will bring electricity bill savings to over 4,600 low to moderate-income residents and generate 37,000 megawatt hours of clean electricity annually. In addition to delivering clean energy to the communities where they are built, the projects will provide local employment opportunities during construction and operations as well as environmental benefits. As part of CVE’s Green Initiative, an estimated $48,200 will be donated to local environmental nonprofits.
The projects are expected to be fully operational by early 2024 and are part of New York’s nation-leading climate agenda, the most aggressive climate agenda in the country. It calls for an orderly and just transition to a clean energy economy that creates good paying jobs and fosters healthy communities.
