B Corporations CVE North America and GreenSpark Solar Announce Operational Launch of Wheatfield Community Solar Project in New York
New York, NY, February 6, 2024 – CVE North America (CVE), in partnership with GreenSpark Solar (GreenSpark), announces the operational launch of a 5.6 megawatt (MW) community solar project in Wheatfield, NY. This project is the first to achieve operational status of a five-project community solar portfolio in construction by CVE and GreenSpark. This key milestone marks a significant stride in bringing equitable and sustainable energy solutions to New York State to support its renewable energy initiatives.
The Wheatfield project in Niagara County is a shining example of CVE’s commitment to producing clean energy for the planet and people. As the third CVE community solar project to go into operation in New York, Wheatfield will generate over 6 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean electricity annually. The project will benefit over 1,030 low to middle-income (LMI) households by offering savings on their electricity bills generated by a clean energy source.
Together, CVE, the owner of the projects, and GreenSpark, the engineering, procurement, and construction partner, are collaborating on four additional community solar projects throughout Central and Western New York. This robust portfolio will provide energy savings to over 4,600 low to moderate-income residents and generate approximately 37 million kWh of solar energy annually. All five projects will participate in the New York Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) NY-Sun program, which aims to make solar power more accessible to homes, businesses, and communities.
Ben Dereume, Technical Director of CVE North America, shared his excitement: “The Wheatfield project is an example of what can be achieved when innovative companies like CVE and GreenSpark join forces. Our joint effort not only underscores our commitment to sustainable energy but also aligns perfectly with New York’s leading climate goals.”
Scott Abbett, Executive Director of Commercial Operations at GreenSpark, adds, “The Wheatfield project is a result of collaboration between the GreenSpark and CVE teams. As Certified B Corporations, both GreenSpark and CVE are able to find solutions that benefit all stakeholders, including the community and the planet. We look forward to continuing our partnership with CVE to bring industry-leading solar solutions to the New York State grid in a way that reflects our shared values.”
